Facts:

Mercury's full-size car available in four-door sedan and high-performance Marauder version in 2003 and 2004.  Scheduled to be updated in 2008, will stay on the updated Panther platform through 2010.  Trim levels include GS, LS and LSE.  Base price is $24,585.  Horsepower increased to 220 in 2001, and 239 in 2005 with dual exhaust.  In 2002, anti-lock brakes and traction control became standard equipment.  In 2003, a new hydro-formed frame, new mono-tube shock absorbers, new variable ratio rack-and-pinion steering, and new dual-rate brake booster greatly improve ride and handling and cut down on road noise.  30th Anniversary edition available in 2005. 2000: Rear child-seat anchors were new. So was an emergency manual release for persons trapped in the trunk. A new Belt-Minder chime and warning light was meant to encourage buckling up. 2001: Adjustable pedals and 20 more horsepower were the 2001 updates to the Grand Marquis. 2002: Grand Marquis added heated door mirrors, ABS, and traction control to the standard features list and treated option groups as separate models for 2002. The lineup consisted of GS, GS Convenience, LS Premium, LS Ultimate, and top-line LSE editions. 2003: A revamped frame and suspension and a performance model highlight the changes for '03. Reviving a name from the past Mercury added the high-performance Marauder model for '03. It featured a 302-horsepower V8, sport suspension, and exclusive trim. All models got chassis and suspension improvements designed to improve ride and handling. Rack-and-pinion steering replaced re-circulating-ball as well. Front side airbags were a new option. 2004: No major changes were made this year. 2005: Added midyear, a sporty LSE model includes the Handling Package, leather upholstery, and unique interior and exterior trim. 2006: Mercury's large rear-wheel-drive sedan sports a mild facelift.
