Facts:
Mercury's attempt at a full-size muscle car in
the same vein as Chevrolet's 1994-1996 Impala SS. A very nice car, but
often considered underpowered for the size and weight of the platform.
Concepts included a two-door convertible version, and a 335hp supercharged
version. The supercharger was identical to that used on the 2001
Mustang Cobra (390hp), and was an off-the-shelf component. Many people agree
that it should have been standard on the car originally.
Specs: Front: independent short and long arm with
mono-tube dampers, steel coils, springs and stabilizer bar; Rear: Live axle with
Watt's linkage, mono-tube dampers, air springs and stabilizer bar, 17" front
wheels, 18" rear wheels, front bucket seats, full length console. A
very limited custom by Kenny Brown featured a 450hp supercharged version with
sport-tuned suspension. Only 10 were built. See the Customs page for
more information.
