1968 Mercury Cougar Dan Gurney Edition
owned by Tom Pryor
"I would like to submit my 1968 Cougar Dan Gurney
edition for the Car Of The Month. The Cougar has 64K original miles. I
received the car as a high school graduation gift in 1968, I had to pay for half
the cost and my parents paid the second half. I was able to order the car and
select color and options. I drove the car thru college and after graduating I
wanted to trade it in for a newer model but my father had other ideas. He told
me if I wanted another car I was on my own and could not trade the Cougar, as
you can imagine I was not pleased. Through the years I have owned many wonderful
sport cars, they have come and gone but the Cougar remains. My parents kept the
Cougar in one of their garages all these years I only drove it occasionally in
good weather which accounts for the low mileage. After my parents passing many
years ago the Cougar came back home with me and resides as one of my pride and
joys. I am so glad my father stood his ground and made me keep the old girl.
The car has the original paint, Madras Blue, as well as the aqua interior,
motor, etc. This is one of the most complete original Cougars I have ever seen
and I have seen many. The sequential rear turn signals still work as well as
the headlight covers, both of which draw much attention on the road.
The engine in the Cougar is a 302 V8, transmission is an
automatic. It's a standard Cougar coupe, nothing to fancy about it...pretty much
a plain Jane."
